The Intelligent Cities Challenge (ICC) is pleased to present its new learning course titled “Local Green Deals: A Governance Innovation to Accelerate the Twin Transition”. The course is available here on the EU Academy, an online learning hub with high quality educational resources produced by EU institutions and available to all those whose work is related to its sphere of action. It is open to all those keen to learn about how Local Green Deals can assist their cities’ growth.

This course is the first module of the EU Academy’s five-part series on Local Green Deals. The series will be developed over the course of the ICC (2023-25). It aims to provide participants with a deep understanding of Local Green Deals, an innovative governance approach designed for cities and municipalities to implement the European Green Deal at the local level and accelerate transformative sustainability action.

The modules are specifically tailored for local ecosystem actors, including local authorities’ administrators and business stakeholders.

Through this course, participants will be able to:

  • Contextualise Local Green Deals as a governance approach to implement the European Green Deal at the local level;

  • Get an overview and definitions of key concepts around Local Green Deals, based on the Local Green Deal Blueprint for Action;

  • Deepen your understanding of Local Green Deals through real-life examples developed as part of the EU-funded CLIMAA and ALLIANCE projects;

  • Hear valuable tips and advice from City administrators with experience implementing these actions in their jurisdictions.

Giacomo Santangelo, Expert, Urban Sustainability Management at ICLEI said “Through the Intelligent Cities Challenge, local authorities all over Europe are showing their commitment to implementing the European Green Deal at the local level. Having this course available on the EU Academy platform is a great opportunity to make the governance innovation of Local Green Deals accessible to all interested audiences and accelerate the twin transitions in Europe”.
