Torrent is a city located within the province of Valencia, east of Spain. With over 80, 000 inhabitants, it is one of the most populous cities in the region. The medieval Arab Tower is the city’s iconic monument, dating back to the 10th century. Its economy is highly reliant on agriculture and services.

The Sustainable and Integrated Urban Development Strategy of Torrent (EDUSI Torrent) for the 2014-2020 period, is a testament to the city’s ambitions to transform into a smart city. Co-financed by the European Regional Development Funds (ERDF), the EDUSI Torrent programme is managed by the City Council, consisting of actions built around thematic areas that have been developed through the collaboration between public and private actors and citizens. The city also adopted smart solutions to optimise the Torrent’s daily resource management system, helping administrations to become more efficient and enhancing citizens’ access to information.

With such initiatives already set in place, participation in the ICC will help the city to further realise its ambitions to become a digitally oriented and sustainable city to improve the quality of life of its inhabitants.
