Terrassa is a city in the province of Barcelona, in the autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain. The city’s history can be traced back to Egara, an early Roman town. For centuries, the city’s main economic activity was the manufacturing of wool and other textiles. In the past years, mechanical and electrical industries have also emerged in Terrassa.
The city adopted a Smart City Terrassa Strategic Plan for 2015-2020 to make Terrassa into a global and innovative city. The strategy aims to modernise the local economy to create not only more, but better job opportunities for its inhabitants. The strategy also seeks to improve the welfare of citizens, to restore trust in politics through increased participation and transparency and finally, build the infrastructure needed for better mobility and communications.
