Sofia is Bulgaria’s capital and largest city with a population of around 1.2 million inhabitants. Thanks to its strategic geographical position, it is a gateway to the EU market and to the markets of the Middle East and Russia. It is the national leader in information and communications technology (ICT) has the potential to become a leader in Europe. It is also host to the Sofia Tech Park – Bulgaria’s largest science and technology park that brings together leading research institutes, universities, NGOs and business associations.
The digital economy of Sofia is well known for its ICT sector that has experienced consistent growth. To further secure its position as a major hub of the ICT sector, Sofia’s participation in the ICC aims to consolidate itself as a future-oriented city. The city will further build and strengthen its innovative ecosystems, develop new technologies and foster synergies between education, science and innovation, all the while generating sustainable economic growth and improving the city’s sustainability performance.
