Pescara is the capital city of the Province of Pescara in the Abruzzo region of Italy. It is the most populated city in the region with 119 217 inhabitants. Pescara ranks among the top ten economic, commercial and tourist centres on the Adriatic coast.
Pescara participates in the ESMARTCITY project that supports innovation to favour green growth and sustainable development in the Mediterranean area. In this project funded by the EU through the Interreg Mediterranean programme, Pescara is improving energy efficiency in public buildings and lighting networks by using new technologies, providing better lighting and services for inhabitants and tourists.
Pescara benefits from synergies between public and private actors, whose collaboration has been fundamental for its transformation into a smart city. Thanks to such partnerships, the city is successfully bringing various actors from transport, industry and energy to work together towards the common goal of sustainable growth.
Pescara aims to finalise its transformation into a smart city to improve the quality of life of its citizen and enable smart and sustainable tourism.
