Padua is the capital of the Padua province in the north-eastern region of Veneto in Italy, having 214,000 inhabitants. The city is one of the main cities in the region, together with Venice and Verona. Compared with other Italian municipalities, it ranks 14th in terms of economic and social relevant. 

With 88 615 enterprises located in the city and 19 332 in the nearby province, Padua enjoys a vivid entrepreneurial ecosystem, generating a turnover of €38.7 billion. The metropolitan area has one of the highest concentrations of information and communications technology (ICT) companies in Italy, and an employment rate significantly higher than the national average.

The region is outperforming the national average thanks to the acceleration of its digital transformation. To reach the European benchmark, Padua has drawn up a set of strategic plans aligned with the EU Digital Agenda.
