Mechelen is a city and municipality in the province of Anwterp, in the Dutch Region of Belgium. With the river Dyle flowing through the city, Mechelen lies on the urban and industrial belt between Brussels and Antwerp. Mechelen is one of the Flanders’ prominent cities of historical art, being a centre for artistic production during the Northern Renaissance.
Over the last few years, the city has developed a dynamic reputation, attracting more both citizens and business. At the core of its strategic decision-making process, Mechelen ensures that a digital perspective is considered. The city has been taking advantage of innovative e-services since 2007, participating in two eGov projects under the European Regional Development Fund. More recently, Mechelen became the first municipality in Belgium to start cleaning the streets using a digital tool to coordinate the process.
Mechelen is now looking to set up a platform to enhance stakeholder collaboration, as well as explore opportunities for the use of open data in the city.
