Mantua (Mantova) is a city in Italy’s northern region of Lombardy with about 50 000 inhabitants. It balances a strong cultural and historical tradition and high digital ambitions. Highly influential across the history of opera and home to medieval and renaissance-type architectural treasures, the city also ranked 18th among 100 cities in the 2017 Italian smart cities ranking.

Mantua participated in the DCC to bridge the gap between its potential and lagged digitalisation process. While the city has already implemented a broad set of cross-sectoral policies to spark and accelerate its digital transformation, it lacked a long-term agenda to steer its direction. Under the DCC, the Mantua set out to design a smart city strategic plan by 2020.

The city is also part of the LabGov.City project which implements a collaborative governance of cities through a partnership between public and private actors, including social innovators.

Mantua aims to move forward with its transformation into a smarter, greener and more inclusive city.

Mantua was a participant city in the DCC.
