The Municipality of Tampere and the Municipality of Turku are joining the ICC as a consortium.

Espoo is part of the Finnish Capital Region: the inner core of the Greater Helsinki metropolitan area. With over 280 000 inhabitants, it is the second largest city in Finland. The city is home to Aalto University of Technology and the Technical Research Centre of Finland, fostering a thriving scientific community. After ranking within the top 6 in 2019, the city is a finalist in the 2020 European Capital for Innovation competition. 

In the aftermath of Nokia’s crisis years, the Finnish telecommunications company headquartered in Espoo, collaborative strategies were developed by local and national authorities together with education providers to ease Nokia’s strain. Such efforts supported the city’s transition to a sustainable and digital local economy while preserving its technologically driven prosperity. Espoo has had a vibrant start-up community for over 15 years, which contributes to the digital transformation process of local traditional companies.

Espoo is committed to using innovation and digitalisation to better the lives of its citizens and further strengthen its position as a hotspot for innovation.
